Samsung has shaved 2.4mm off the Galaxy S25 Edge, at least compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
The durability test of Samsung's thinnest flagship of all time proves surprisingly unspectacular; a closer look inside reveals where in particular Samsung has slimmed down, especially compared to the significantly thicker Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The comparison is not exactly an apt one at first glance, as the Galaxy S25 Edge does not offer exactly the same set of features as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, since at least the official price level is similar to that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra (rather than the Galaxy S25+), the teardown comparison with the Ultra model is somewhat justified. After all, the S25 Edge uses the same 200 MP camera as the top model of Samsung's flagships.

But not 1:1, as the teardown by YouTuber JerryRigEverything reveals. The Galaxy S25 Edge uses a slightly slimmed-down version of the ISOCELL HP2 sensor, but this was just one of several measures taken to reduce the thickness of the Galaxy S25 Edge housing to just 5.8 mm. The teardown also reveals that Samsung has slimmed down the speakers, battery, cooling, mainboard and USB-C port. In the latter case, the titanium-reinforced chassis now serves as the USB port frame, the speakers are thinner, and the water ingress protection is now positioned at an angle within the casing.

Significantly thinner motherboard

The double-sided motherboard of the Galaxy S25 Ultra offers the greatest potential for shrinkage, as its thickness has been significantly and demonstrably reduced. The fact that the battery has shrunk from 5,000 mAh to 3,900 mAh is unlikely to please users of the Galaxy S25 Edge, especially since there are silicone-carbon alternatives that have long provided Samsung's Chinese competitors with higher capacities, even in extremely thin foldables.

At least the South Koreans are sticking with the easily serviceable plastic cage for replacing the battery, which earns two thumbs up from the teardown expert. Last but not least, there is also a difference in the chipset cooling, and not a negative one, according to Zack Nelson. The Snapdragon 8 Elite now sits directly on the vapor chamber with a lot of cooling paste, whereas the Ultra model had an extra metal part in between but no cooling paste. For the expert, the changes are positive overall, and the solid performance in the bend test is probably due to the titanium-reinforced housing frame.
