The Philips 27M2N3501PA is a new monitor designed for gamers. It’s a 27-inch monitor with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, which should result in sharp pictures but lower hardware requirements for higher frames per second, at least compared to 4K. The display has a refresh rate of 240Hz, which can be overclocked to 260Hz. Users who rely on an HDMI connection rather than DisplayPort will have to live with refresh rates up to 144Hz. Philips also mentions a gray-to-gray response time of 1 millisecond, and Adaptive Sync for synchronizing the fps and refresh rate is also supported.
In addition, the QHD IPS monitor offers a brightness of 300 nits, and it is an 8-bit panel with FRC support. According to Philips, the sRGB color space is covered by 120%, and the DCI-P3 color space is represented by 95%. The color accuracy is specified as Delta E < 2. Due to the panel technology, gamers should not expect extremely high contrasts. With a ratio of 1000:1, the Philips 27M2N3501PA is not anywhere near OLED levels of contrasts. That said, the monitor does officially support HDR10 content.
Additional features for gamers include a crosshair in automatically adjustable colors, as well as selective brightening of darker parts of the picture. Besides two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort, only the usual 3.5mm headphone jack is available in terms of connectivity. Consequently, there’s no USB hub or similar. On the other hand, the Philips gaming monitor has two speakers with 2 watts each, and the stand can be adjusted in terms of height, tilt and rotation. Moreover, the Philips Evnia Precision Center software allows users to adjust their new monitor. The 27M2N3501PA is already available in Europe for €240, but Philips’ official list price stands at €279.
