Foldable Amazon Fire tablet rumored to hit the market before Apple's MacBook Fold

Foldable notebooks like the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold and portable foldable monitors such as the Asus ZenScreen Fold (from $2,500 on Amazon) have been marketed as the future of mobile computing. In addition, the new Huawei MateBook Fold illustrates how futuristic a laptop with an 18-inch foldable display can look.

For years, rumors have asserted that Apple will launch its first MacBook Pro with a foldable 18.8-inch OLED display in 2027 or 2028. When folded, it could be roughly the size of a 13-inch laptop. According to a new leak from the usually well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Amazon could beat the iPhone manufacturer to market, as Amazon is reportedly planning to release a laptop or tablet with a foldable display, whose mass production is purportedly scheduled to kick off in late 2026 or early 2027.

Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), confirms Ming-Chi Kuo's claims and notes that Amazon has been in contact with suppliers for quite some time in order to acquire the components needed for this new device. Considering that Amazon Fire tablets carry a comparatively affordable price tag, the online retail behemoth might be targeting the lower price range with its new foldable. On the other hand, brands like Apple, Samsung and Huawei are likely to occupy the premium foldable segment. Anyhow, there are no further details regarding the display technology, panel size or operating system of Amazon’s upcoming foldable tablet as of today.
