If BYD thought it would enjoy its EV charger moment in the sun for a while, Zeekr has other ideas. The latter has unveiled a 1.2 MW rapid EV charger, faster than BYD's 1.0 MW charging tech revealed earlier in March 2025.
Zeekr unveiled the ultra-fast charger during VP Zhao Yuhui's speech at the China EV100 Forum. It will debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2025. The Chinese automaker already operates more than 4,000 rapid chargers with a peak power of 800 kW at 826 stations. It will roll out the new chargers in Q2 2025.
Zeekr now has the fastest EV charger globally after BYD held the distinction for a few weeks. The latter revealed its Super e-Platform charging tech, which can add 400 km in just five minutes, at an event where it also opened the pre-order books for the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV. It plans to set up 500 fast chargers in April.
Tesla's Superchargers continue to be popular because of their ubiquity and reliability. However, the American carmaker is gradually sliding down the pecking order in terms of charging speed, as its latest version can only supply 500 kW. Tesla has a smaller Megacharger network delivering up to 1 MW, which is exclusively used by its Class 8 electric Semi trucks in the US.
