Xiaomi continues to tease the launch of a new entry in the Redmi K80 series on Chinese social media. As we have covered previously, Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Redmi K80 Extreme Edition will be launching this month with MediaTek's latest Dimensity 9400+ chipset. Not only that, but a new dedicated display chip should help improve raw performance over the device's peers.
Now, Xiaomi has revealed that the Redmi K80 Extreme Edition should not fall short of competitors when it comes to battery life either. For context, its predecessor arrived last year sporting a 5,500 mAh combined capacity. While still a respectable battery capacity, newer devices like the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro have pushed beyond the 7,000 mAh mark.
Accordingly, Xiaomi has confirmed that the Redmi K80 Extreme Edition will land with a 7,410 mAh capacity for almost a 35% improvement from last year's model. Although this is 140 mAh smaller than the battery inside the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, Xiaomi will offset this shortfall by including nominally faster wired charging.
Apparently, 100 W wired charging will be joined by 'Bypass Charging Plus' technology too, which should minimise battery wear over time. At this stage, it remains to be seen whether these battery-related upgrades will make their way to a global release. Given the smaller battery capacity that Xiaomi includes in the Xiaomi 14T Pro (curr. $625 on Amazon) compared with the Redmi K70 Extreme Edition, we suspect the same could occur with the Xiaomi 15T Pro later this year.
