Hardly any time has passed since Igor Bogdanov shared the first image of what he claimed is DJI's forthcoming Osmo Nano action camera. Initially, the Osmo Nano was rumoured to be the rebirth of the Action 2 that DJI moved away from in subsequent Osmo Action generations. Although a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) listing indicated that the Osmo Nano was a different shape than the cuboid Action 2, leakers implied that the Osmo Nano would be smaller than DJI's other action cameras.
However, a new set of photos suggest that will only be the case when the Osmo Nano is detached from its display portion. In fact, the Osmo Nano is the spitting image of the Insta360 Go 3S (curr. $399.99 on Amazon) at first glance, which will reach its first birthday tomorrow. While the Go 3S can be attached to a housing that creates a conventional action camera, DJI has taken a different path with the Osmo Nano.
From the dozen or so images that Igor Bogdanov has leaked so far, it seems that the Osmo Nano and its display module lock into each other via a mounting system. Possibly aided by magnets to keep the pair stable, the mounting system could well be put to use for more modules than have been shown so far. Also, it looks like the display module can be positioned to be facing away or towards you for vlogging or selfie shots.
Setting all that aside, the Osmo Nano looks comparatively cumbersome and much taller than conventional action cameras. Specifications have not emerged yet, nor has pricing. We suspect both will emerge shortly though, particularly given the Osmo Nano's rumoured July 23 release date.
