Tesla has launched the long awaited single-motor Cybertruck that is eligible for the federal tax credit. It has cut many options and features corners to reach the cheapest Cybertruck price, though.

The mystery RWD Cybertruck that has been sitting in the IRS tax credit database for a while is now official as a base trim with the longest, up to 363 miles range.

Before the Cybertruck launched, it had a huge reservations list that featured tri-, dual- and single-motor variants. As usual, Tesla released its first electric pickup with the most expensive Foundation Series and AWD trims.

Just as Elon Musk advised, it took about 18 months for Tesla to ramp up Cybertruck production sufficiently and be ready to release the cheapest RWD version that just became official.

Cybertruck RWD price and release date

  • $62,490 after tax credit
  • June 2025

Tesla, however, has cut so many corners to reach the cheapest RWD Cybertruck price tag, that it is probably not worth the price difference with the AWD version now. The Cybertruck RWD starts from $69,990, while the AWD trim is $79,990.

Granted, its price can be brought down to $62,490 with the federal made-in-America tax credit, which makes it the cheapest ever Cybertruck, but the difference with the AWD trim still stays just ten grand.

Cybertruck RWD vs AWD range and features

  • 350 miles (325 miles on AWD) of range on a charge
  • 363-mile range with the soft tonneau cover
  • 7,500 lbs (11,000 lbs on AWD) towing
  • 6,117 lbs (6,634 lbs for AWD) weight
  • 6.2s (4.1s on AWD) 0-60 mph acceleration

While the RWD Cybertruck is expectedly lighter, slower, and with longer range than the dual-motor AWD version, Tesla has also yanked much more than a motor to hit the cheaper price tag.

It has provided a handy RWD vs AWD features and options comparison list that reveals all that is missing from the cheapest Cybertruck:

  • Coil springs instead of air suspension
  • Cloth seats
  • No HEPA filter
  • No rear light bar
  • No vented seats and no heated rear seats
  • No rear screen
  • No electrical outlets in the truck's bed
  • Seven-speaker audio system as opposed to 15 speakers
  • Basic 18-inch wheel covers
  • No L-tracks in the bed
  • Lower ground clearance
  • No automatic tonneau cover (soft tonneau is a new $750 option)
  • Standard central console

Tesla bills the new RWD Cybertruck as an Endurance Hauler, evidently touting its longer 350-mile range and unpretentious interior with cloth seats.

Those who signed up for this exactly single-motor Cybertruck when Elon Musk was still saying that it will start from $40,000, are in for a disappointment.

Not only does the cheapest Cybertruck start from over sixty grand, but it is also stripped down of many features that make the electric pickup a cool toy, from the air suspension that brings high ground clearance, to the rear light bar.

The gap between produced and shipped Cybertrucks was getting so big, though, that Tesla felt compelled to introduce the cheapest RWD trim and hope to shake sales up in the second quarter.

Early adopters of the RWD Cybertruck that will be launched some time in the June-July period will at least have the option to purchase FSD for $7,000 instead of full price, if that is of any consolation for the smorgasbord of missing features on the cheapest Cybertruck.
