The Backbone One is one of the more popular controllers designed for mobile phones. Following the launch of the original Backbone One in 2020 (Android version in 2022), Backbone has released a handful of special edition variants such as a PlayStation edition and a Death Stranding limited edition. Now, it has announced an Xbox edition.
The Backbone One Xbox Edition has a translucent green color similar to that of the Hyperkin DuchesS Controller which itself is a throwback to the Xbox controller that shipped with the 2004 Xbox Halo:Combat Evolved edition. The color scheme has also been adapted by 8BitDo for its Retro R8 Mouse and Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard.
Designed in collaboration with Xbox, the controller has ABXY action buttons like the standard edition. However, in the place of the capture button on the PlayStation Edition, it has an Xbox button. Save for the color scheme and the Xbox button layout, the features are the same.
The Backbone One Xbox Edition is now available to buy on Backbone's online store for $109.99, $10 more than the PlayStation and standard editions. That is also more than double the price of the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller (available on Amazon for $49.99). Although 8BitDo's controller only works with Android devices and connects via Bluetooth, however, it has Hall Effect joysticks and triggers, back paddle buttons, and a built-in battery for up to 13 hours of play.
