Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the latest instalment in Ubisoft’s long-running franchise, has reached 2 million players in just two days after releasing on March 20th. As per Ubisoft’s announcement, this milestone surpasses the launch performance of its predecessors, Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This shouldn’t be too surprising since AC Shadows managed to cross the 1 million mark in less than 24 hours from its release.
To celebrate this achievement, the company took to social media, thanking fans for being a part of the journey to Feudal Japan. While Ubisoft has not disclosed specific sales figures yet, the 2 million player count includes all forms of access, such as direct purchases and subscriptions through Ubisoft+, which is the publisher’s premium service. It should be noted that neither Origins nor Odyssey launched on Ubisoft+, which offers day-one access to new titles on Xbox and PC but not PlayStation. On Steam, where Ubisoft recently returned to after a hiatus, Shadows has already become a top seller, peaking at 61,809 all-time concurrent players and breaking into the platform’s most-played games.
At the time of writing this article, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has a 24-hour peak of 60,263 players and tops the list of ‘popular releases’ on Steam DB. The strong start underscores the enduring popularity of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which has sold over 200 million units across the globe. Despite some controversy surrounding the game, Shadows appears to be a commercial success so far.
As the gaming community continues to explore Feudal Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is on track to set new records for the franchise.
