The Aurora 16 is one of two new mid-range gaming laptops that Dell has presented today under the Alienware brand. Although the Aurora 16 and Aurora 16X look similar, the former does away with a lot of the latter's features to hit a 35% lower price tag. For instance, the Aurora 16 opts for a plastic shell and misses out on RGB backlit keys, unlike the Aurora 16X.
Arguably, the Aurora 16's base configuration will not be powerful enough for many gamers, too. According to Dell, this variant comes with an Intel Core 5 210H, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050, 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. On top of that, the company installs a 300 nit and 120 Hz display, as well as a 60 Wh battery despite settling on a €1,099 (~$1,245) MSRP. For reference, alternative GeForce RTX 3050 powered laptops like the HP Victus 15 or Asus TUF A15 (curr. $658 on Amazon) can now be picked up for less than $700.
With that being said, the Aurora 16 can be configured with up to a Core 9 270H and a GeForce RTX 5070. On the face of it, the latter part makes the Aurora 16 competitive with the Aurora 16X. Unfortunately, Dell caps the GeForce RTX 5070 at an 85 W TGP in the Aurora 16 but 115 W with a 15 W Dynamic Boost in the Aurora 16X.
At any rate, the Aurora 16 can also be optioned with a 96 Wh battery; all SKUs come with twin USB Type-A and USB Type-C ports, plus HDMI 2.1 and Ethernet connections. The Aurora 16 will be available from May 27 in the Eurozone. Dell has not confirmed full pricing and availability, yet.
